(UPDATED) This project has a new working title. Previously LOL Kids Film.

A “passion project” short film co-produced by film-makers Bradley Lanphear and Michael Belardi. This beautifully crafted film will bring the viewer into the lives of the children and staff of Laugh Out Loud Children’s Home in the rainforest of Punta Gorda, Belize.

There are over 140 million orphans in the world.

A number half the size of the entire population of the United States with an average age of 5 years old and primarily living in poverty-stricken countries. It’s an enormous problem facing every part of the globe, but the solution lays not just in the hands of governments and nations, but in the hands of individuals willing to get involved and have the faith to believe that together we can make a difference.

Intended to be an inspiring catalyst for positive change, Wild Branches focuses on the success stories of children whose lives have been forever changed by the care and education they receive at Laugh Out Loud and how the missionaries have impacted the greater community through meeting both physical and spiritual needs. It’s our hope that everyone who sees this film will be compelled to believe that they can make a difference.

We need your help to make this film possible.

We need generous people who want to be part of the solution.  No one is hiring us to make this. There is no client and there is no product being sold. This is about doing something to help make the world a better place.

Overview

This 7-10 minute documentary film will bring the viewer into the lives of the children at LOL and the young adults who have aged out of the program. The story will focus on how LOL Children’s Home changed their lives through much needed medical care, spiritual and emotional growth and gave them new opportunities and hopeful futures.

We will also tell the stories of the founders, Jervis & Melissa Fisher and their incredible staff who have dedicated their lives to this noble cause. The impact of LOL reaches far beyond their own doors as their team makes frequent visits to local and remote villages. Our film crew will join them and document these outreaches.

It will be filmed in widescreen anamorphic format and comprised of spectacular cinematic b-roll of children and LOL staff, outreach activities in remote villages and schools, compelling interviews, and stunning scenes of rainforest landscapes.

Purpose & Goal

LOL Founder, Jervis Fisher, spends a lot of his time every year, traveling and speaking to audiences of churches, current regular donors, and potential future donors. This film will be shown in auditoriums across the US and abroad and will have 3 primary goals:

  • To raise awareness of the 140 million homeless children around the world.
  • To help raise financial support for Laugh Out Loud.
  • To motivate & inspire the viewer to get involved and be part of the solution.

Production Budget

We are seeking donations towards a budget of $20,000 to cover all production expenses including, but not limited to travel, equipment purchase/rental, and modest crew compensation. This is a fraction of the cost of most commercial productions.

One might well ask the question, “$20,000 is a lot of money, why not just give the money directly to LOL?”

This budget that we’re seeking is equal to less than one month of expenses for LOL, but the impact of this film could raise hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars. That is money well invested.

For comparison, here’s an estimate of the commercial retail cost of this production:

  • Travel $800 ea. x3 = $2,400.
  • Rental Cinema camera package: $15,000.
  • Rental Sound package: $5000.
  • Film Production Insurance $500.
  • Cinematographers x2 $500ea. /day on set x 3 weeks = $21,000.
  • Sound Engineer $500/day on set x 3 weeks = $10,500.
  • Post-production editing $1,000/per final minute of film x 10 mins = $10,000

Commercial Cost: $64,400

So you can see, we’re proposing to do this for less than 1/3 of the commercial cost.
